Lee Hendrie has shared that Everton fans were getting frustrated with Beto after going into half-time behind against Luton in the FA Cup on Saturday 27 January.

The Portuguese forward was handed just his fifth start of the season by Sean Dyche, his first since facing Manchester City in mid-December, but has yet to impress since arriving at Goodison Park in the summer.

Hendrie shared that Beto's failures in front of goal was the story of the first half for the Toffees, who are staring down the barrel of an early cup exit again.

"The fans are getting frustrated with Beto," he said live on Sky Sports' Soccer Saturday (27 January, 3:34pm).

"Calvert-Lewin does well, cuts inside and slips a lovely ball into Beto. If he gets his head up and knows where he is in the box, he can hit the shot first time but he takes a touch instead and Amar'i Bell comes across and clears the danger.

"It has been the story of Everton's half."

Poor performance

Beto has experienced a poor start to his Everton career so far, having scored just four goals in 24 appearances. And his shooting boots were certainly left in the dressing room in the first half against Luton, spurning a couple of good chances to score.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has done everything right, holding the ball up well and bringing his teammates into the match. However, Beto has failed to even hit the target with either of his two shots.

Everton

The 25-year-old still has a lot of developing to do under Dyche. Minutes on the pitch are hard to come by for the striker, though, with the manager unlikely to drop Calvert-Lewin unless he needs to.

The Toffees are calling out desperately for a goal-a-game poacher, with midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure still topping the goalscoring list this season. If Everton have any chance of going further in the FA Cup or even surviving the threat of Premier League relegation, Beto needs to up his game.
