Gary Neville predicts transfer explosion, drops Everton verdict live on Sky Sports
Gary Neville believes clubs will have to move forward with caution regarding financial fair play after the charges against Everton.
The Toffees were docked 10 points earlier this season for breaching the Premier League’s financial rules, with another charge handed to them and Nottingham Forest earlier this month.
But despite the threat of FFP, Neville believes Premier League clubs will still spend big in the summer transfer window.
“I would expect the summer will explode again,” Neville said on Sky Sports News. “The TV money is still the same as it was so the cash is still going into the clubs.
“I don’t think it’s a case of clubs not having the money. It’s maybe a case of Covid and the losses catching up with them. Maybe a slightly newer approach, thinking about things in a little bit more of a measured fashion.
“The main thing might be that FFP seems to be hitting. Manchester United have spent hundreds of millions and they’re on the edge of FFP.
“It’s not just the likes of Everton and Forest who are near the bottom of the league and trying to catch up. It’s the clubs right at the very top who are having to move forward with more caution.”
Running scared?
It is clear that a lot of English clubs are running scared of the Premier League after a very quiet winter transfer window.
The period is usually quiet compared to summer windows, but this time around really was an anomaly, and was undoubtedly largely down to clubs not wanting to breach the competition’s profit and sustainability rules. That resulted in countless loan deals being carried out, with not many permanent transfers taking place.
Unfortunately for Everton, the Merseyside club were the first to be charged and punished, with another charge hanging over their heads.
But it seems like they will not be the last, with many giants of English football potentially in danger of being sanctioned.

The next summer transfer could be crucial for Everton in sorting out their financial issues, but it is crucial that they are still a Premier League club by then.
Worryingly, they currently occupy 18th place in the table, and now have a huge mountain to climb in order to stay up.
