Everton set for Neal Maupay Brentford windfall as loan clauses emerge
Everton are close to earning a financial windfall from Brentford after a clause in Neal Maupay’s loan deal emerged, according to Liverpool ECHO.
Writing on their website (6 February), the news outlet report that there is an appearance bonus in the deal between the clubs that saw the French striker move to west London in the summer.
And after Maupay hit his seventh goal of the season in Brentford’s 3-1 defeat to Man City on Monday night (5 February), it has now emerged that the Bees will owe the Toffees extra cash after a certain number of games which now looks more likely as he forms a good partnership with Ivan Toney.
“Furthermore, there are clear benefits to Everton should Maupay continue his success on loan,” they wrote.
“Not only would it make Brentford more likely to exercise their option to buy Maupay at the end of the season, his increased importance is also a boost as the ECHO understands the deal includes an appearance bonus that he is getting closer to triggering as he features more heavily.”
Everton get financial boost
It seems unlikely that any bonus in a loan move is going to be exceptional, but at this stage for Everton every little helps.
Maupay was a total flop at Goodison Park during his season at the club but he has rediscovered his form in west London and is showing why the blues were happy to spend £12m on him two years ago.
But his poor form and the club’s financial situation simply showed that we couldn’t afford to keep him around, but the hope would be now that he can find his form with regular football and secure a move elsewhere.

The perfect situation would be for Brentford to pay up this appearance bonus and then look to sign him permanently at the end of the season, with Everton recouping most of the transfer fee they spent back.
He clearly has no future at Goodison Park or Bramley Moore Dock, and any cash would be hugely helpful in the club’s current situation. It’s good to know that this exists though and there should be some money coming in relatively soon.
