Everton: James Garner destroyed by Glenn Murray after what he did v Brighton
Glenn Murray slammed James Garner after what he did in the Everton v Brighton clash at the Amex Stadium on Saturday, 24 February which ended 1-1.
The midfielder conceded a free kick at the edge of his penalty area in the dying stages of the first half of the game and was fortunate that the hosts did not score from the resulting set piece.
Despite dominating possession, Brighton failed to find the back of the net in the first half but restricted their opponents to not having a single shot on goal.
Speaking on the Premier League world feed, Murray, a former Seagulls striker, said (24 February, 15:44): “That’s a stupid challenge there from Garner. Putting his team under pressure there.”
Garner nearly lets Everton down there
The challenge near the edge of his own penalty area was a moment of recklessness that could have cost the Toffees.
As a midfielder, Garner plays a crucial role in shielding his team’s defence and maintaining composure, especially in critical moments of the game.
His decision to concede a free kick in such a dangerous position put his team under unnecessary pressure and risked conceding a late goal.
In the Premier League, where matches are often decided by fine margins, such lapses in judgment can prove costly.
While nothing came to it, Garner knows that such things are unacceptable and Sean Dyche will have had a word with him at the break.

To be a reliable presence in midfield, he must learn to temper his aggression and make better decisions under pressure to avoid jeopardizing his team’s chances of success.
