Luton Town's defeat to Bournemouth may be the "straw that breaks the camel's back" in their relegation battle with Nottingham Forest and Everton, according to Simon Jordan.

Rob Edward's side let a three-goal lead slip at the Vitality Stadium on Wednesday (13 March) to lose 4-3 to Adnoni Iraola's side to leave themselves three points adrift of 17th-placed Forest and four away from the Toffees.

While both Everton and Forest could still be hit by point deductions for breaching profit and sustainability rules, Jordan believes that Sean Dyche's side will still have the ability to dodge the drop, even with a second deduction.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Thursday (14 March, 10:12) he said: "This might be the straw that breaks the camel's back. They need to bounce back and they need to bounce back against Nottingham Forest.

"If they get done again at the weekend, then irrespective of whether points get taken away from Everton and Nottingham Forest, they will still have the ability, the whereabouts, the strength of character and knowledge to find their way out of it.

"I think that certainly, Sean Dyche is wiley enough not to worry about what other people are doing and only worry about what his side are doing. But the point is, they [Luton] had an opportunity."

Will Everton be hit by a second point deduction and be relegated from the Premier League?

There is so much uncertainty around Goodison Park at this moment in time, but Everton supporters would have been a bit more nervous when they saw Luton were 3-0 up at half-time on Wednesday evening.

Luckily for Dyche's side, Bournemouth found their feet in the second half to claim all three points and boost the Toffees' hopes of survival, but relying on the Hatters won't be enough to keep the Blues up this season.

The Toffees need to start winning games quickly, otherwise they could be dragged straight back into the bottom three if they're hit with another point deduction before the end of the season. Until a punishment is handed out, there is an element of risk around Goodison.

Hopefully, Forest will do Dyche's side another favour and beat Luton at Kenilworth Road on Saturday (16 March) but that will mean very little if Everton drop points against Bournemouth. Something has to change quickly in the blue half of Merseyside.
