Clare Wheeler has issued her verdict on the Everton Women v Liverpool Women Merseyside derby clash on 24 March.

With men’s football on pause for the international break, the clash is set to take place at Goodison Park.

Wheeler believes there are a lot of positives going into the game against their arch rivals.

She told Evertontv: “There are a lot of positives going into the derby, and those three points against Liverpool are going to be crucial.

“I think if you look at our track record, we do really well in front of big crowds. Last year, it was one of my best memories playing in the derby. And I hope this year, we get more people there. It’s an amazing day and I’m looking forward to it.”

Everton must play for the win

A win against Liverpool holds significant importance for Everton, especially considering their current position in the league standings.

Sitting 9th in the table, the Toffees are striving to climb higher and secure a stronger finish to the season.

A victory over their local rivals not only earns them crucial points but also boosts morale and confidence within the team.

Furthermore, defeating Liverpool, who are currently fifth in the standings, would demonstrate Everton’s ability to compete with and outperform top-tier teams.

It would serve as a statement of intent, signalling their ambition to challenge for higher positions in the league.
