Premier League bosses "are facing a backlash" from clubs after the latest batch of television fixtures were announced, including the rescheduled Everton versus Liverpool clash, according to The Mirror.

The second Merseyside derby of the season - cancelled last week due to Liverpool reaching the FA Cup quarter-finals - will now take place at Goodison Park on 24 April.

Liverpool then have to travel to West Ham in the early Saturday slot three days later after being picked for TNT Sports coverage.

The Mirror's chief football writer John Cross said of the changes in a piece for the publication's online edition [24 March]: "Premier League bosses are facing a backlash over their latest fixture reschedule.

"Arsenal are likely to be unhappy as they face a backlog of games while Tottenham will get a staggering 15 days’ rest before the North London derby on Sunday, April 28.

"Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has also been left facing his worst nightmare of the Merseyside derby with Everton at Goodison Park on Wednesday April 24 - and will then have to play at West Ham on the Saturday lunchtime TV slot at 12.30pm on April 27."

Everton vs Liverpool Merseyside derby date

Finding a slot for the rescheduled Merseyside derby was always going to be a problem. Due to Liverpool being involved in the Europa League, the only other guaranteed slot was in the final week of the season.

With plenty potentially riding on the game for both clubs, it is clear to see why they decided to instead arrange it for April.

Everton now have a better understanding of what is ahead of them in terms of fixtures, with that Merseyside showdown sandwiched by home games with Nottingham Forest and Brentford.

That could easily be a defining week in the Toffees' campaign, and by that point we will know if any further points have been deducted.

Before looking too far ahead, though, all focus right now is on the trip to Bournemouth next weekend. While not quite must win, it is a truly massive game for the club.
