Everton want to sign ‘Magnificent’ Maxence Lacroix this summer

Everton want to sign VFL Wolfsburg defender Maxence Lacroix this summer ahead of Italian clubs, according to BILD.

Writing on their website (4 April), the German news outlet report that the 6ft 3 centre-back looks set to leave the Bundesliga this summer with several clubs interested in a deal.

Everton are said to have been monitoring the player for several months and are keen to bring him in to bolster their squad, with any deal expected to cost at least £17.1m.

“Lacroix has also sparked interest in England,” they wrote.

“According to BILD information, Premier League club FC Everton has been monitoring Wolfsburg’s defensive player more closely for months.

“The defense chief still has a contract with Lower Saxony until July 2025, so he would bring a lot of money into VfL’s coffers in the upcoming summer transfer period. Because it’s not cheap.

“Anyone interested should pay at least €20million (£17.1m) for the right-footed player.”

Everton must prepare for potential Jarrad Branthwaite exit

Most Toffees fans are now expecting to see the end of Jarrad Branthwaite’s time at Everton this summer, with several top clubs looking to sign him.

But while there are financial problems at Goodison Park, if top players are going to leave the club early then replacements will definitely need to be brought in.

At 6ft 3 and 24 years old by the time the transfer window opens, Lacroix is the type of profile that would be perfect to bring in for a Sean Dyche side.

Jarrad Branthwaite has been linked with a transfer due to his strong Everton form.

Physically he is a specimen, his football intelligence is great and he is good on the ball too, which has seen him described as “magnificent” by Alex Chaffer in the past.

The club will have to move quickly though with interest from Serie A clubs, but hopefully they are planning properly to deal with any issues that are forthcoming this summer.
