Everton caused Premier League club to back out of deal to sign unnamed EFL player
As a result of Everton receiving a points deduction, an unknown EFL club was left struggling financially after a transfer fell through, according to the Daily Mail.
Mike Keegan reported in the newspaper on 5 April (page 75) that the FFP punishments did not just affect the Toffees and Nottingham Forest.
The ruling to take points away from the pair sent shockwaves through the English footballing pyramid and had its impact.
Keegan has suggested that an unknown Premier League team changed their transfer strategy following the points deduction.
On that, he said: “Forest and Everton are not the only ones hurting. A chairman at a cash-strapped EFL club disclosed they had a top-flight team lined up to buy one of their best young players. The fee had been agreed and the cash would have gone a long way towards them being able to see out their season without financial fears. But when news of Everton’s points deduction landed the offer was taken off the table.
“The buying club were spooked and the EFL club would have to find another way of making it to the finish line. Bravo.”
Although it is unclear as to who the clubs and player in question are, it is still an unfortunate situation that has harmed a club. It all started with Everton.
How has FFP affected Everton in the transfer market?
With Premier League survival on the agenda right now at Goodison Park, there is little thought toward the summer transfer window right now.
Although that may be the case, there is no doubt that Sean Dyche and Co will need to be clever when making signings.
In the past few seasons, there have been some clever signings made by the club. Incomings such as James Garner for £15m [Sky Sports] and Amadou Onana for £33m [BBC] have been successful.

There have been some slight over pays such as Beto for £30m [FotMob] this season which will harm the financial situation with little on-pitch benefit so far.
Despite the points deduction, there has still been some money spent by Everton but the January window was certainly quiet.
There will be hope that the Toffees can sort things out and strive towards a positive window with some bargain signings. Links to cut-price deals such as Samuel Iling-Junior certainly point towards this being the case.
