Jordan Pickford is certainly nowhere near the end of his goalkeeping career quite yet, but Everton might already have a ready-made replacement in Harry Tyrer.

The 22-year-old, who has never made an appearance for the Toffees' first team, has been out on loan this season, gaining valuable experience before returning to Goodison Park ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

Having joined Chesterfield in the National League last summer, Tyrer is set to return to Everton as a title-winning goalkeeper, making 42 appearances as the Spireites have dominated the league.

The young shot-stopper has kept 12 clean sheets in all competitions, missing just four league matches as Chesterfield were promoted into League Two for the first time since 2017/18.

It was announced on Wednesday that Tyrer has been awarded for his brilliant loan spell, being handed a new one-year contract extension at Goodison Park until June 2026. [Everton FC]

The boyhood Everton supporter joined the club at age seven and has never looked back. His recent contract news should take him one step closer to earning his senior debut under Sean Dyche.

Sean Dyche must contemplate Harry Tyrer debut at Everton

Tyrer has been an exemplary figure throughout the last two seasons, having been out on loan at Chester before the most recent spell with Chesterfield.

The youngster's performances during the 2022/23 season earned Chester a spot in the National League North playoffs, though they would eventually fall short against Brackley Town.

The shot-stopper was then able to develop his game in the National League, taking part in a special season at the SMH Group Stadium.

Those memories will stick with Tyrer forever, and hopefully spur him on to create a long-lasting career at Goodison Park, just like Pickford has done since signing from Sunderland in 2017.
