Everton v Liverpool predicted XI: Sean Dyche to axe Andre Gomes, three changes
Everton will be looking to take the momentum from the Nottingham Forest win when they host Liverpool on Wednesday, 24 April.
The Toffees won a game marred with controversy by a 2-0 scoreline on Sunday, 21 April, and now all eyes will be on the Merseyside derby.
Liverpool appear to need a win more than their cross-town rivals as they aim to win the Premier League while Sean Dyche’s side are five points clear of the relegation zone.
Everton likely to be ultra defensive v Liverpool
Sean Dyche deploys Ashley Young at right-back as he’s been a winger and is able to run up and down the pitch and put crosses inside the box.
However, apart from being 38, he’s also suspect defensively and could have a tough time dealing with the likes of Diogo Jota or Luis Diaz.
Thus, it makes sense for Dyche to drop Young and play Ben Godfrey there – a centre-back by trade, but better when it comes to defending.
Everton to retain the 4-1-4-1 system
The system was changed for the Forest game and instead of a 4-4-1-1, it was a 4-1-4-1 and given Liverpool’s strengths, it makes sense to go with the latter.
The second change could be in midfield with Amadou Onana coming in for Andre Gomes.
Gomes, who is on big-money at Goodison Park, is unlikely to match the intensity of the Liverpool side and someone like Onana would be ideal at breaking down attacks.

The third change is a forced one as Dominic Calvert-Lewin picked up a knee injury against Forest and if he doesn’t recover in time, Youssef Chermiti may be given the nod to start the game as Beto is injured as well.
In other Everton news, a senior player may never start for the club again after the Chelsea loss and is now very likely to leave in June.
