Jamie Carragher predicts result of ‘Crucial’ Everton v Liverpool Merseyside derby clash

Jamie Carragher has made his prediction ahead of the “crucial” Merseyside derby clash between Everton and Liverpool this week.

The Toffees earned a much-needed win over Nottingham Forest in their last outing to open up a five-point gap above the relegation zone, while Liverpool claimed a win over Fulham to sit in second place in the table with five games remaining.

And while asked for his predictions for Sky Sports Super 6 (23 April), the Anfield legend and ex-Everton fan admitted that he expects his former side to come out on top at Goodison Park.

“Liverpool should have enough firepower on the pitch and the bench to get three points and another crucial win in the context of the title race,” he said.

Everton v Liverpool: Goodison Park fans will be roaring

After a big win over Nottingham Forest, Sean Dyche has been given some breathing room in his battle against the drop, but it’s not over yet.

Everton have had a game in hand over the teams around them for a while now, but that game is against fierce rivals Liverpool who are chasing the title, so nobody is expecting a win.

But recent performances have been better from the Toffees and with the added incentive of throwing their title aspirations in the bin as well as saving themselves, the players and fans should be as fired up as ever.

The atmosphere under the lights will always be special at Goodison Park and after a win, morale within the squad is high too.

This is a big chance to all but secure survival at this point of the season, but avoiding defeat should be the most important thing. Proving Carragher wrong, ruining Klopp’s farewell and securing Premier League status for next season can all be done in one night.
