Everton: Sean Dyche sack update at Goodison Park
David Ornstein believes Sean Dyche’s future as Everton manager is not even being discussed at Goodison Park currently.
The Toffees made it 13 games without a win in the Premier League on Tuesday night (2 April) as they claimed a 1-1 draw away at Newcastle, leaving them four points above the relegation zone with a game in hand.
However, the club are expecting a second points deduction for a PSR rule breach which could plunge them into danger and some fans have questioned if Dyche is the right man to be in charge for the run-in.
But when asked for an update on the manager’s future on Merseyside during a Q&A on The Athletic website (4 April), Ornstein was adamant that he would be going nowhere as things stand.
“I think Everton have far more important matters to be focusing on than Dyche’s future – notably the second PSR case, the proposed takeover and their Premier League survival,” he said.
“He has been managing in terrible circumstances and I doubt a change of manager is anywhere near the top of their agenda. I’m not even sure they could afford to sack him if they wanted to, given their financial predicament.”
Everton must keep Sean Dyche… for now
There is no doubt that there should be some concerns and some worries about the team’s form right now in the Premier League, but it can’t all be blamed on Dyche.
The manager is trying to lead a side who have no idea of their futures right now and he has been dealing with a host of issues behind the scenes throughout his entire tenure.
It’s also easy to forget that if the club were given their six points back after the initial deduction, they would be sitting in 14th place and not in the conversation for relegation at all.

However 13 games without a win is a troubling run and we have seen managers sacked for far less than that in the past, so things clearly aren’t all fine and dandy.
But right now the last thing Everton need is more instability, and Dyche knows what he is doing in this fight against the drop. It may be something to look at in the summer though, depending on how things end up and all the other factors play out.
