Jack Harrison stinks in 3/10 as 9/10 Jordan Pickford shines – Everton player ratings v Brentford
Everton played out a hard-fought 1-0 win against Brentford at Goodison Park as they secured their Premier League survival thanks to an effort from Idrissa Gueye.
Despite 14 shots being taken in the first half, the teams headed into half-time without an effort on target between them, with Sean Dyche’s side having the better of the opportunities.
It was Gueye who broke the deadlock in the second-half as he slammed his effort into the top corner to put the Toffees a goal ahead and something to hold on to which they did with a crucial defensive display.
Everton player ratings v Brentford at Goodison Park
Goodison News has rated each Everton player out of 10 below…
Jordan Pickford – 9
His most notable contribution of the game was a save from Ivan Toney in the second-half, but he was assured and confident between the sticks throughout – making some fantastic saves and adding once again to his impressive clean-sheet record this season.
Ben Godfrey – 4
Struggled to deal with the runs in behind as he often found himself caught out by balls over the top. Also found it tricky when playing out from the back over overlapping his teammate to create chances going forward.
James Tarkowski – 8
Tarkowski, alongside his centre-back partner, proved once more why he is the backbone of this Everton team with a strong and dominant performance which kept Ivan Toney silent throughout.
Jarrad Branthwaite – 8
Much like Tarkowski, Branthwaite proved once again why he deserves all the praise he has received this season with a physically dominant performance to thwart his opponents which was matched by his display with the ball at his feet.
Ashley Young – 6
A slightly more impressive display than his opposite full-back, Young turned in an impressive performance defensively as he got the better of his opponent, but was frustratingly sloppy in possession and provided little support going forward.
Idrissa Gueye – 8
His goal won the game for the Toffees and secured their Premier League survival for another season, coming as the cherry on top of yet another fantastic display in midfield, breaking up play and providing stability to the midfield line before he was subbed off.
James Garner – 7
While not quite as impressive as the performance of his midfield partner, Garner’s usual calmness and composure in possession was on display again as he kept things ticking in the middle.
Abdoulaye Doucoure – 5
Less impactful than many of his performances have been this season, but not an awful display by any means. Failed to provide much threat going forward but his presence was important to provide support to his attacking teammates.
Jack Harrison – 3
Showed plenty of energy as he always does, but once again the end product was sorely lacking when he had several opportunities to extend the scoreline and put the stamp on Everton’s survival and could have cost the side with his wastefulness.

Dwight McNeil – 7
A contestant threat going forward and provided several opportunities for his teammates, while his set-piece delivery was once again a crucial part of Dyche’s game-plan. Hit the bar with a tremendous effort and was unlucky not the find the net.
Youssef Chermiti – 4
Found himself isolated for large spells of the game and struggled to make the necessary difference up top, although he showed some promise with an ability to bring his teammates into play and willingness to run the channels.
It wasn’t necessarily his fault, but he could have offered much more by way of attacking threat.
