Andy Burnham, the Mayor of Greater Manchester, has sent a new message to the Premier League accusing them of trying to "sacrifice" Everton after they confirmed their survival.

Burnham has been outspoken in his criticism of the Premier League since the first ten-point deduction was handed to the Toffees as he has repeatedly challenged their decisions.

Everton's survival was confirmed with a 1-0 win against Brentford at Goodison Park, but Burnham insisted the fans would not forget what has happened to them this season.

Taking to his X account following the game, Burnham shared: "It's great Everton are safe, but we will never forget how the Premier League tried to sacrifice one of England's oldest and greatest clubs. I will have more to say on this soon."

Everton's survival was confirmed thanks to back-to-back home victories against Burnley, Nottingham Forest, Liverpool and Brentford, but that achievement shouldn't overshadow the frustrations the club have felt off the pitch this season.

The club have seen eight points deducted, initially six and an additional two, for breaches of profit and sustainability rules this season, with many viewing the punishments as harsh and not representative of the breaches.

The appeal process against the second points deduction is still ongoing, with the possibility remaining that they may not hear the final verdict until after the end of the Premier League season, as the frustration looks set to drag on.

Burnham's constant questioning and criticism of the Premier League has presented him as a leading voice of the Goodison support on this matter, and his claims will not doubt force the issue into the minds of those beyond Merseyside.
