Joey Barton has jokingly picked Youseff Chermiti in his Premier League team of the season after his performance against Brentford.

The 19-year-old forward made his first start in the league on 27 April but was somewhat ineffective for Everton in attack, with Barton quickly changing his gag to Erling Haaland.

Everton did beat Brentford 1-0 at Goodison Park to confirm their Premier League safety, but it was midfielder Idrissa Gueye who scored the winner with Chermiti struggling to lead the line up front.

In a video on his TikTok channel, Barton said: "Up front, Ollie Watkins, and obviously Chermiti from his performance for Everton at the weekend... no, sorry, Haaland."

Everton brought Chermiti to the club as their biggest signing of the summer 2023 transfer window, until his Portuguese compatriot Beto was signed for £25.8 million just a few days before the deadline.

Chermiti has only been able to play a bit-part role for the Toffees so far this season though, starting just two matches in all competitions - once in the Premier League - and making 15 substitute appearances.

Everton
Youssef Chermiti is yet to score for Everton, having made 17 appearances in his first season as a Toffee.

Those cameos are yet to yield a maiden Everton goal for Chermiti, and although his hold-up play against Brentford did help his team-mates to fire off chances of their own, he failed to make much of an impact in the box himself, managing just 0.06 xG [SofaScore] with a solitary blocked shot.

Still very raw and a player who can become a regular in the Everton frontline, Chermiti will be hoping to break his Toffees duck before the end of the season, and if he's able to do that, he'll go into the following campaign with an eye on displacing Beto and Dominic Calvert-Lewin as Sean Dyche's first-choice striker.
