Dominic Calvert-Lewin has dropped an admission over his Everton future as he nears the final 12 months of his current contract at Goodison Park.

The Toffees striker is set to enter the final year of his contract this summer, having joined Everton on a £1.5million deal from Sheffield United in 2016.

Despite his season being plagued by injury, Calvert-Lewin has played a key role in Sean Dyche's team securing Premier League safety, scoring four goals in his last five games.

After being asked whether he was thinking about a new deal, quoted by Liverpool Echo [6 May], he replied: "Not at the moment. I’m just playing and scoring.”

Should Everton offer Dominic Calvert-Lewin a new contract?

Despite suffering from injuries this season, which has been a common theme during his time at Goodison Park, there is no doubt that Calvert-Lewin has played a vital role in keeping Everton in the Premier League.

The 27-year-old had just three league goals to his name up until March but has since notched four goals, securing draws against Newcastle United and Luton Town, as well as beating Burnley and Liverpool.

Understandably, he has been heavily criticised for his performances this season but managed to step up when the Evertonians needed him most. He deserves his flowers for that too.

With 68 goals in 245 matches since 2016, the forward is the 12th-highest goalscorer in the club's history. If he were able to stay fit for longer, there is no doubt he would have more.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has rediscovered his goalscoring form for Everton

Despite almost eight years together, it could be time for Everton to move on from Calvert-Lewin and target a free-scoring striker who is capable of reaching double digits this season.

The current Toffees forward has only achieved this feat twice in eight league campaigns, and Beto is showing few signs of being the fix that Dyche needs to bump Everton up the Premier League table.
