Everton job losses on the cards as ‘real-world consequences’ emerge for administration

Everton are currently staring down the barrel of potential administration amid further regression in the 777 Partners takeover deal – putting jobs at risk for club staff and contractors, according to the Guardian.

The American investment firm have for months been blocked by the Premier League from acquiring the controlling stake in Everton from Farhad Moshiri, and are now the subject of a lawsuit in the US.

If 777 were to be forced off the table, the club are looking at the very real possibility of going into administration – which could affect the team this season, who had already secured survival.

The report on Friday morning [10 May] suggests the employment of club staff and contractors could be submerged into doubt due to the “real-world consequences” of administration, with invoices potentially going unpaid and redundancies cutting through the team behind the scenes.

Everton’s final home match of the season comes on Saturday at 3pm against relegated Sheffield United, and the Goodison Park crowd are certain to voice their anger at the ongoing debacle.

What administration could mean for Everton

As seen previously with English league clubs in administration, consequences on and off the pitch are dire.

Portsmouth in 2010 are currently the only Premier League club to have been deducted points for this reason, and should Everton fail to beat Sheffield United at the weekend, the Toffees could catastrophically find themselves in the Championship should administration be confirmed within the next week.

Alternatively, if the 777 takeover was to fully collapse and no alternative prospective buyers agree a deal with Moshiri, the punishment of -9 points may take effect in the Premier League at the start of next season.

Staff casualties at Goodison Park and Finch Farm will outrage supporters on Merseyside, as a protracted, sorry saga rolls on in the mere hope of a happy ending – but when, and at what cost?
