Everton must cash in on Dominic Calvert-Lewin amid Newcastle United transfer twist
Everton must cash in on Dominic Calvert-Lewin this summer after Newcastle United were linked with a move for the Goodison Park striker.
According to Luke Edwards [23 May], the Magpies are lining up a move for the Toffees forward as part of an “expensive” double transfer swoop with West Ham star Jarrod Bowen also involved.
The 27-year-old has become a much-loved figure at Goodison Park since he arrived in 2016 but with just a year left on his current contract, and his plagued injury history, it could be time to part ways with him.
If the Everton hierarchy were to wait on Calvert-Lewin’s exit, and he was not to sign a new deal, the club could see him leave on a free transfer next summer rather than earn money from his departure.
Considering the current financial issues at Goodison Park, and the uncertainty over 777 Partners’ takeover, it seems like a no-brainer to allow Calvert-Lewin to leave in the transfer market.
Could Dominic Calvert-Lewin leave Everton this summer as Newcastle United interest emerges?
The final third of the pitch has continuously been a problem for Sean Dyche in the last two seasons, with no player able to reach 10 Premier League goals in either campaign.
Dwight McNeil was the leading goalscorer for the Toffees in the 2022/23 league campaign, while Abdoulaye Doucoure and Calvert-Lewin split the winnings this season.
The 27-year-old’s goals have been extremely important in the last few weeks, helping Everton to secure their safety in the top tier of English football. However, he struggled for most of the season.
Though he has played considerably more minutes this season than the last, having only made 16 league starts due to injury in the previous campaign, the threat of injury still seems to play on his mind.

In addition, the Evertonians will be keen to push further up the league table rather than experience the relegation dogfight for a fourth consecutive year.
This is likely to see a few players leave this summer and use any profit from those transfers to bring in some big hitters for Dyche to utilise. If Newcastle are considering a pricey move for Calvert-Lewin, it would be difficult to turn down this summer.
