John Textor could break Premier League rules after Everton takeover talks

Crystal Palace co-owner John Textor has met with Farhad Moshiri as he looks to purchase Everton, according to Alan Nixon.

The journalist reported via his Patreon account [27 May] that the American sports tycoon flew into Spain for a summit with Moshiri and major moneymen, with Evertonians Andy Bell and George Downing also in attendance.

It is understood that, while the Palace co-owner could come to Everton’s rescue as 777 Partners’ takeover continues to stall, he would need to dispose of his current shares at Selhurst Park or risk breaking Premier League rules.

It is possible for Textor to own shares in both top-flight clubs, but he would need permission from the Premier League. He could be given a “period of grace” to complete the sale while closing the deal at Goodison Park instead.

Everton takeover talks take another twist as 777 Partners’ bid falters

Considering how well-run Palace has been over the years, it is understandable why some fans may be excited by the idea of Textor taking ownership of the Toffees.

The mid-table Premier League team have made several brilliant decisions which have seen them survive in the top tier for so many years, with the most recent one being Oliver Glasner’s appointment.

Survival in the Premier League next season will obviously be one of the biggest aims, especially with the number of ongoing financial issues, but 777 Partners are only adding more frustration and uncertainty.

Since originally registering their interest in the Merseyside club in September, whole-fire sales and administration have both been mooted as possible outcomes.

The loyal fans just want to know that their club is safe for another season, though the current uncertainty has caused havoc at Goodison Park, which Textor could certainly fix if Moshiri is to change his mind.

The current Everton owner needs to make the correct decision for the fans, especially after the amount of criticism he has received for not being open enough with the fans as reports and rumours continue to swirl.
