Everton want to sign Weston McKennie in Juventus transfer update

Weston McKennie is in demand this summer with three Premier League clubs including Everton chasing the USA international, according to Tutto Juve.

The Italian outlet reported that Everton, alongside Aston Villa and Newcastle, are interested in bringing the 25-year-old midfielder back to the Premier League.

McKennie’s previous experience in England was an unsuccessful loan spell with Leeds that ended in relegation, but his flexibility as both a midfielder and wing-back has seen a marked improvement for Juventus this season.

The report stated that the Bianconeri would demand a fee of £17million to £21million for McKennie, which Everton would only be able to facilitate by selling someone like Amadou Onana first.

Would Weston McKennie fit at Everton?

Everton’s midfield is set to go under the microscope – and then the scalpel – this summer, with a host of departures likely to leave Sean Dyche with threadbare options in the middle of the park.

Onana’s expected departure will help to alleviate the financial fair play troubles which have stung the Toffees throughout this season, and only by generating income from similar sales can they afford a player of McKennie’s ilk.

Meanwhile, Andre Gomes and Dele Alli also seem set to depart, and although Idrissa Gueye and Abdoulaye Doucoure have signed contract extensions to remain at Goodison Park, the club will still need to add more depth if they’re to avoid another relegation fight next season.

McKennie’s ability to cover the right-hand side of midfield or as a wing-back will certainly make him an attractive prospect to Everton, particularly with Dwight McNeil currently the only out-and-out winger in Dyche’s squad.

However, Juventus’ asking price could see the Toffees beaten to his signature by either Villa or Newcastle, forcing them to chase cheaper alternatives as another summer of financial strife begins.
