Anthony Gordon has reacted via social media after Everton star Jarrad Branthwaite made his international debut for England on Monday (3 June).

The Three Lions struggled in the first half against Bosnia & Herzegovina but eventually saw out a 3-0 win at St James' Park, with the Toffees centre-back replacing Marc Guehi as a second-half substitute.

Branthwaite was called up by Gareth Southgate in March as England faced Brazil and Belgium in friendlies, though he was one of the few players not to make it onto the pitch.

Finally handed his debut on Monday night, Branthwaite posted on Instagram to mark the milestone, to which Gordon replied [3 June]: "Congrats bro," with a love heart.

Jarrad Branthwaite finally rewarded for Everton performances

In the Premier League, only Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool conceded fewer goals than the trio of Branthwaite, James Tarkowski and Jordan Pickford.

The 21-year-old defender definitely should have been handed his debut in March but can finally celebrate hitting the milestone as he replaced Guehi with 35 minutes remaining of the match.

With a match against Iceland still to come before the Three Lions jet off to Germany this summer, fans on Merseyside will be hoping to see their star defender in the starting XI rather than on the bench once again.

Having come through the Everton academy together, Gordon and Branthwaite will be very familiar with each other, which shows on the latter's social media post as they begin their international journeys together.

While the Newcastle United man has already earned his debut, having started the 1-0 loss to Brazil in March, the young duo are at very similar stages in their England careers and could end up being the future of the Three Lions.

This should just be the start for Branthwaite for club and country, with the defender only developing more since making his breakthrough under Sean Dyche this season.
