Manchester United are confident of securing the services of Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite by the end of July, according to Football Transfers.

The news outlet reported that there will be more bids made for the 21-year-old as United see him as their top defensive target this summer.

The Toffees are understood to be willing to listen to offers between £50million and £60million but want to add clauses to take it closer to £65million and above.

Everton must take advantage of Manchester United's spending habits

The Merseyside outfit should capitalise on Manchester United's history of lavish spending on players who may not meet expectations to secure a higher transfer fee for Branthwaite.

The Red Devils have a track record of overpaying for players, as evidenced by their acquisitions of players like Antony and Ramus Hojlund for substantial sums, despite their performances not always justifying the price tags.

This pattern suggests that United may be willing to pay a premium for Branthwaite, especially given their urgent need for defensive reinforcements and the player's rising stock.

By leveraging United's financial approach and the high demand for the England international, the Toffees could potentially negotiate a more favourable deal.

They make look to push for a higher base transfer fee and include performance-related add-ons that could significantly boost the overall value of the deal.

This strategy would not only maximise their financial gain from the transfer but also provide a buffer against potential underperformance by the player at his new club.
