Bryan King believes Manchester United will make a player-plus-cash offer to Everton for Jarrad Branthwaite.

The ex-Goodison scout claims the Toffees won't get anywhere near £80million for the defender.

As reported by The Athletic (14 June), the Red Devils made an opening offer of £35million plus add-ons for Branthwaite.

However, that same day the Liverpool Echo reported (14 June) that the bid had already been turned down.

Having previously suggested that the two clubs will agree a deal worth around £50million, King - speaking exclusively to Goodison News - claims United could also look to include a player in the deal.

“Branthwaite has come through at the club (since joining from Carlisle), so it will spell a major profit for Everton,” King said.

“It will also help to boost their financial position. However, £80million will not be the final figure, that I am sure about.

“I don’t think United will pay that, the fee will be closer to the £50million mark, but I do think they could throw a player into the deal.”

Will Jarrad Branthwaite join Manchester United from Everton?

This feels as if it could be a transfer saga which drags on all summer.

As reported by The Times (13 June), Branthwaite has already agreed personal terms with United, so convincing the player clearly won't be the issue.

It is about winning over his club, and if United aren't willing to match Everton's asking price, including a player could help to move things along.

There are several players at Old Trafford who Sean Dyche's side might be interested in, which means finding a player to offer shouldn't be a problem.

As a result, it will just come down to whether or not both clubs can find a solution which suits everybody.
