Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite update emerges amid £42m Manchester United twist
Manchester United remain in the hunt to sign Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite despite talks with Bayern Munich for defender Matthijs de Ligt, according to Dharmesh Sheth.
The Sky Sports journalist reported on 1 July that the Netherlands international is valued by Bayern at 42million while the Toffees are unlikely to lower their valuation of £70million.
After the passing of the 30 June PSR deadline, the Merseyside outfit are understood to be under no pressure to sell the 21-year-old.
Sheth wrote on Twitter: “Manchester United have held initial talks with Bayern Munich over defender Matthijs de Ligt. €50m [£42million] valuation as per @Plettigoal. Interest in Jarrad Branthwaite remains but Everton under no pressure to sell & unlikely to lower £70m+ valuation.”
Everton must continue to remain adamant over the stance on Jarrad Branthwaite
The Toffees must remain firm on their valuation of Branthwaite as he has proven himself as a top-quality defender, playing a key role in their Premier League campaign last season.
His performances have attracted interest from top clubs, including Manchester United, highlighting his market value.
The valuation of £70million is not unreasonable given the current inflated transfer market and the premium placed on young, homegrown talent.
The passing of the 30 June PSR deadline means the club is not in a rush to offload players to balance the books.
This gives the Toffees the upper hand in negotiations, allowing them to hold out for their desired fee.
Their stance is also about sending a message to other clubs and their own players.
By standing firm on their valuation of Branthwaite, they are showing that they value their players highly and will not be bullied into selling them for less than they are worth.
In other Everton news, the club have been handed a green signal to sign an award-winning player with his agent confirming an exit is on the cards.
