Everton fail to renew Graeme White contract with Goodison Park change on the horizon
Everton stadium announcer Graeme White took to social media to announce he is leaving his role at the club.
White posted on X (7 July) that his time announcing for the club will come to an end as Everton have sought to replace him.
He said: “After nine years as stadium announcer, last week I was informed that my matchday contract was not being renewed. The club have moved to an established ‘Name’ as they change to in-vision presenting for Goodison’s last season.
“Thanks for the memories. Loved every minute.”
Everton will have a new voice bringing the fans the team news, substitutions and goalscorers for the final Goodison season.
Everton decision to appoint established ‘name’ is puzzling
The decision to appoint a new stadium announcer for the club’s last season at Goodison is a strange one to say the least.
It is not a decision fans would have expected and not one they’d have given much thought too either.
But White’s is a voice that they have become accustomed to hearing on matchday for nearly a decade now.
As the Toffees undergo surgery off the pitch with AS Roma owner Dan Friedkin set to purchase the club and the move to the Bramley-Moore dock stadium at the end of the season, this isn’t a change that needed to be made.
The reaction to the tweet says it all.
Journalist Tom Canton said: “This doesn’t seem right at all. So sorry Graeme.”
Whilst one Everton fan said: “I’ll be honest, your voice is something I’ve become accustomed to whenever we score, whenever I think back to a goal at Goodison I hear your voice.. if something isn’t broke then don’t fix it.”
All the comments underneath White’s announcement are a mixture of condolence, appreciation and confusion.
Now Everton fans will have to wait to find out who the established ‘name’ will be on the Goodison tannoy next season.
