Hull City are prepared to keep Jaden Philogene this summer despite interest from Everton, according to Hull Live.

The online source reported on Thursday (11 July) that the Championship side are open to keeping the 22-year-old winger if an acceptable deal cannot be reached with any interested parties.

It is understood that the Toffees have agreed in principle an £18million deal for Philogene this summer, as per Sky Sports, though Aston Villa have triggered a matching rights clause in the player's contract [Fabrizio Romano].

Everton must strike acceptable deal for Jaden Philogene transfer

While Villa have triggered a clause in the player's contract, this does not automatically mean that Sean Dyche's team are out of the running this summer.

Philogene was only able to make six senior appearances at Villa Park before leaving on a permanent deal, and due to that lack of game time, his former club look to be leaving the decision to the player.

He may feel he has a point to prove with the Villans after leaving almost 10 months ago, though a move to Goodison Park could be much more significant for his overall development in the long term.

Philogene registered 12 goals and six assists in 32 appearances last term, becoming one of Liam Rosenior's key players as the Tigers narrowly missed out on Championship play-off spots.

While Hull would certainly benefit from another year with the talented winger, it is no surprise to see so much interest, and the club may find it difficult to turn an offer down if enough profit is being made.

The 22-year-old would most likely make an instant impact on Merseyside, with the winger position often seen as an area of weakness for Dyche's team. The addition of Philogene could fix that quite easily, though the Toffees will need to remain vigilant this summer.
