Bryan King has slammed Everton for how they have handled the Jarrad Branthwaite transfer saga.

The ex-Goodison scout claims new terms should have been offered to the defender previously.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano via X (22 July), the Toffees are preparing a new contract proposal for Branthwaite.

But King - speaking exclusively to Goodison News - doesn't understand why this has taken so long.

“They should have offered Branthwaite a new contract months ago,” King said.

“If they’d locked him into a new deal on big-money then he would have been worth more in the market.

“Then if United had made a big-money offer, fine. However, the way this has been handled has been amateurish. This should have all been sorted regardless of what was happening with the takeover."

Everton to offer Jarrad Branthwaite a brand-new contract at Goodison Park?

Some supporters will be delighted to discover that Branthwaite is to be offered a new deal.

However, whether or not he accepts the offer is a completely different question altogether.

The 22-year-old still has three years left to run on his current deal at Goodison Park. However, as time goes on, his value will only decrease.

Therefore, even if he doesn't end up moving to Old Trafford this summer, next summer he would be worth a significant amount less.

As a result, locking him into a new deal makes sense. Although, it remains to be seen whether or not the Toffees have waited too long to start talks.
