Alan Myers is unsure whether Everton will complete the signing of Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips this summer.

The Sky Sports news editor claimed on 23 July that while there is interest on Merseyside, he does not see this being a likely one.

The England international has struggled since moving to the Etihad Stadium from Leeds United and his recent loan spell at West Ham was not ideal for him.

Via X, Myers wrote: "I’m sure there’s an interest, I’m not so sure it happens though."

Everton must not sign Kalvin Phillips this summer

Pep Guardiola called him “exceptional” back in November 2023, but even he knows that the 28-year-old is a shadow of the player he was pre-injury during his Leeds days.

The Toffees must, thus, avoid signing Phillips this summer due to his recent struggles and failure to live up to expectations at Manchester City and West Ham.

Phillips has not been able to replicate the form he showed at Elland Road where he was a key player and earned a £42million move to City.

His fitness has been a concern, as he has struggled with injuries and has not been able to maintain a consistent level of performance.

The Englishman's loan spell at West Ham was disappointing, with Phillips failing to make an impact and struggling to secure a regular starting place.

Everton need players who can come in and make an immediate impact and Phillips' recent form suggests he may not be able to do so.

Sean Dyche also expects his midfielders to offer a lot off the ball and it's evident that Phillips is no longer capable of it.
