Lyon ace Jake O'Brien now has his Everton medical scheduled for Monday, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian journalist reported via X on 28 July that the contract length for O'Brien has also been agreed with the deal going all the way to June 2029.

He will join for a fee worth around £16.9million and Lyon will retain a 10% sell-on clause should he exit Goodison Park.

Everton mean business this season

Everton have been one of the busiest teams in the Premier League this season. The club has already welcomed both Iliman Ndiaye and Jack Harrison to their ranks.

The addition of Ndiaye was well-needed as, last term, the Toffees' attack massively struggled.

And, although their defence was arguably one of the team's strongest areas on the pitch, outside of their starting duo of Jarrad Branthwaite and James Tarkwoski, there isn't much quality.

On their days, both Michael Keane and Mason Holgate can perform well.

However, their form is inconsistent and with Keane now entering the latter stages of his career, it's not a surprise to see O'Brien added to Sean Dyches' ranks.

The Irishman will be a direct replacement for the recently departed Ben Godfrey who joined Atalanta near the start of the summer window.

It's unknown yet whether to not O'Brien will be taking a first-team role or if he'll have to fight his way into the first-team and get in over the likes of Tarkowski and Branthwaite.
