Everton want to sign Amir Richardson as £8m transfer update emerges

Amir Richardson is still on the transfer agenda at Everton despite having reportedly made a decision on his future, according to the Sunday Mirror.

The newspaper reported in their print edition (11 August, page 74) that the Toffees are one of the sides tracking 22-year-old midfielder Richardson, who “flourished” playing for Morocco at the 2024 Olympics.

Richardson has reportedly already agreed to join Fiorentina this summer, but with a market value of just £8million, the Toffees, Leicester and Tottenham all remain interested in the Stade de Reims star [Get Football News France, 7 August].

The six-foot-four midfielder’s performances for Morocco have drawn comparisons to Paul Pogba as well as a breadth of interest, particularly given the “relatively cheap price” of a potential transfer.

Could Everton get midfield upgrade with Amir Richardson transfer?

With £50m in their transfer coffers following Amadou Onana’s long-anticipated move to Aston Villa, the Toffees have a sizeable question mark over their midfield which Richardson could be the answer to.

Replacing a player of Onana’s calibre with another who only has experience in Ligue 1 could be seen as a risk, but Richardson’s frame and high ceiling could allow him to slot straight into a similar role.

Given Sean Dyche’s side have reportedly spent the vast majority of their transfer budget this summer despite Onana’s big-money exit [The Athletic, 9 August], looking at players around the £10m mark is a wise course of action.

With this being seen as a hugely cut-price amount for a player with as much potential as Richardson, signing him for his market value of £8m would be seen as an impressive coup at Goodison Park.

Beating Spurs and newly-promoted Leicester to his signature would not only give Dyche the Onana replacement he needs, but would also be another sign of the Toffees’ shrewd transfer operations amid difficult circumstances this summer.
