Everton caution urged immediately after new takeover updates at Goodison Park

Everton supporters should take any takeover news doing the rounds at the minute with a “note of caution” amid a delicate situation, Dan Plumley has said.

The Toffees find themselves back at square one in their pursuit of a buyer following the collapse of the Friedkin Group takeover and as yet a substantial update in terms of a potential bidder has yet to materialise.

There have been reports that ex-LA Dodgers general manager Kevin Malone will front a consortium (Alan Myers, 22 July), while a source close to the John Textor situation told Goodison News that he remains interested in making a bid but would have to sell his 45 per cent shareholding at Crystal Palace first.

Finance expert Plumley, speaking exclusively to Goodison News, thinks any takeover news that is forthcoming should come with a warning as a substantial update is yet to emerge.

He said: “I think it (clarity from Everton) could be anything.

“The problem with this is how many times have we been in this situation where there’s been a message saying there’s going to be clarity or we’re close to a resolution only for it to fall through?

“So, I just think everything you kind of read or don’t read, because there’s not been anything coming out since the collapse, I think certainly from the fans’ point of view it’s treat everything with a note of caution and it’s a really delicate situation.”

Everton need to offer takeover clarity

It looked as though supporters were finally able to look forward with an air of optimism after the Friedkin Group were granted exclusivity to complete a takeover.

But the collapse of that deal, largely due to concerns over the money lent to the club via 777 Partners, has left the Toffees firmly back at square one.

There have been rumblings of previously interested parties coming back to the table but nothing particularly substantial, which is a huge concern to supporters.

The long-suffering Everton fans deserve better and frankly, they need to be kept abreast of where the situation is at because the silence is deafening.
