Everton have joined the race to sign Tromso midfielder Jens Hjerto-Dahl, according to HITC.

The online source reported [15 August] that, while Liverpool have been aware of the 18-year-old star for more than 12 months, Aston Villa and Tottenham are also interested.

It is understood that interest in Hjerto-Dahl is mounting, with clubs flocking to Norway over the last few months to watch him in action, with several big names across Europe taking a glance.

Everton ready Jens Hjerto-Dahl transfer?

Although Hjerto-Dahl is just 18 years of age, the midfielder has already become an important player for Tromso, with the club only above the relegation qualification spot by goal difference.

He has started 15 of their 18 league matches, coming on as a substitute in two more, scoring the winner in a dramatic 3-2 win over Rosenborg in May.

The midfielder has even announced himself on the European stage, starting four matches in the Europa Conference League qualification rounds and even scoring the winner in a narrow 1-0 win over KuPS on Thursday 1 August.

Fans will be oblivious to who this young talent is, but with so much experience under his belt this season already, it is no wonder why so many teams are after his signature this summer.

Sean Dyche could certainly do with another midfield acquisition before the transfer window closes on 30 August, with the Toffees set to miss out on Kalvin Phillips, who is joining Ipswich Town instead [The Telegraph].

While James Garner and Idrissa Gana Gueye are a superb midfield duo, the latter's recent injury worries will not be helpful heading into a new Premier League season. Even with Tim Iroegbunam available, Dyche is understaffed in the middle of the park.

If Everton are to secure Hjerto-Dahl's signature, they will need to act quickly to fend off the other suitors while time ticks ever closer to the transfer deadline.
