Alan Myers has admitted that he believes Neal Maupay missed the clash between Everton and Doncaster Rovers with a "minor injury".

The French forward, was absent from the Toffees' matchday squad for Tuesday (27 August) night's 3-0 win as speculation continues to swirl around his future heading into the final days of the transfer window.

Reports suggest that the striker could still exit Goodison ahead of the 30 August transfer deadline [The Athletic, 28 August] but Sky Sports journalist Myers has suggested that wasn't why he was left out of the squad in the Carabao Cup.

Writing on X on Tuesday (27 August) he said: "I think I saw he had a minor injury but not 100% sure."

Will Neal Maupay exit Everton amid Goodison Park transfer rumours?

It is quite impressive just how much talk there has been around Maupay this summer when the Frenchman hasn't made a competitive appearance for the Toffees for over 12 months now.

The forward's outspoken approach, especially over the last couple of days after the incident involving supporters at a train station, has garnered plenty of attention from pundits and supporters alike.

Almost every fan would be in agreement that they wouldn't want the striker to be anywhere near Dyche's squad heading into the new season and it does still seem incredibly likely that he could depart Goodison Park sooner rather than later.

Hopefully, any injury problem that he does currently have won't prevent him from completing a medical with a new club if a deal can be agreed as the Toffees won't want to be lumbered with him for any longer than is necessary.

Sean Dyche will hopefully provide a concrete update on Maupay's situation, both in terms of injury and transfer, before the window slams shut on Friday 30 August so that both the player and the fans know where he stands.
