Everton are set to soon be able to unveil Orel Mangala as a new signing with a medical imminent, according to TEAMtalk.

The report [28 August] claims that Mangala's deal is very close to completion, meaning he could make his debut back in the Premier League against AFC Bournemouth at Goodison Park on Saturday (31 August).

The former Nottingham Forest midfielder is set to join the Toffees from Lyon, who have only just made his loan permanent from last season, with a £33.7m option to buy next year - although it is unclear whether this could be an obligation.

Everton close to Orel Mangala capture

Everton will shortly be able to announce Mangala as a new signing by all accounts, but a debate has recently swirled over the nature of the deal following conflicting reports.

Fabrizio Romano [28 August] claimed there is an option in 12 months' time to make the loan permanent for a fee which has swelled to £33.7m - over double what Lyon paid to take him from Forest.

However, David Anderson [28 August] understands that the deal will in fact include an obligation to buy - which changes the outlook entirely.

An astute piece of business for a missing part of the jigsaw for Sean Dyche would then become a decision of potential financial ruin next summer, should the club be locked into a binding agreement to buy the Belgian for north of £30m.

This would be a promise to be fulfilled at a time when Everton do not know who their owner will be, how their debt repayments look, what division the club are in, and what spare cash they may have for transfers after the stadium move. However, if it's an option, it looks to be a very good approach.
