Everton have made inquiries over the availability of Lyon winger Ernest Nuamah with a double signing on the cards, according to Sky Sports.

Alan Myers reported in Sky Sports' Transfer Centre on 28 August that the Toffees are interested in the 20-year-old wideman and could pursue a deal before the Ghanaian before the transfer window closes.

The Toffees' inquiries for Nuamah come simultaneously with their pursuit of his Lyon team-mate Orel Mangala, who reportedly underwent a medical on 28 August ahead of a loan move to Goodison Park.

Prospective Toffees owner John Textor has reportedly been involved in processing the deal to take Mangala from Lyon to Merseyside [Sacha Tavolieri, 27 August], but Myers' report didn't state if this would be the case for Nuamah.

Ernest Nuamah transfer could give Everton extra attacking edge

Although Nuamah has only officially been a Lyon player for a matter of weeks – he spent last season on loan at Groupama Stadium – he's no stranger to making moves between John Textor-owned clubs.

Nuamah didn't make an appearance after signing for RWD Molenbeek from FC Nordsjaelland in 2023, heading straight out on loan from the Belgian side to Lyon thanks to Textor's control of both sides.

Lyon triggering a £21million option-to-buy clause in Nuamah's loan suggests that the Toffees would need to pay a similar amount to sign the Ghanaian permanently, although this may not be immediate.

If Textor has indeed completed his takeover on Merseyside by the January transfer window at the latest, any deal agreed for Nuamah – in a similar fashion to Mangala's loan [Florian Plettenberg, 27 August] – would be easier to complete.

While the club's complicated off-field situation will rumble on regardless of what Sean Dyche does on the training pitch, the Toffees boss will be keen to add another exciting attacking talent before the transfer deadline [L’Equipe, 28 August] – particularly given his side are yet to score a Premier League goal this season.
