Calvert-Lewin will almost certainly quit Everton in January, replacement lined up

Carlton Palmer believes that it’s “almost certain” that Dominic Calvert-Lewin will exit Everton in the January transfer window.

The striker has entered the final year of his contract and throughout the entirety of the summer transfer window, the Toffees talisman was linked with a Goodison Park exit.

Nothing ever came to fruition despite the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal [Caught Offside, 27 August] both showing their interest in a potential move for the number nine.

Speaking to Football League World (5 September) Palmer shared that Sean Dyche already has a replacement lined up for Calvert-Lewin, should he depart.

“Life is always tough for Sean Dyche and Everton,” Palmer said.

“Season after season, he has to deal with the difficulties at the football club and always manages to come up trumps, and this season will be no different despite having a really terrible start to the season with three defeats.

“They also have a problem with Dominic Calvert-Lewin entering the final year of his contract, There’s been a lot of interest from Premier League clubs for him, and it’s almost certain that he will leave the club in January.

“That being said, Everton have already lined up his replacement in the form of Luton Town’s Elijah Adebayo.

“He’s big, he’s robust, and Luton Town are open to letting him go if they got a bid of £15-20m.”

Elijah Adebayo would be a stellar Dominic Calvert-Lewin replacement for Everton

Although no Premier League clubs chose to go after Adebayo during the summer transfer window, it’s undeniable that the striker is a Premier League-worthy number nine.

The defender managed to bag a total of 10 goals for Luton Town last term despite the side being relegated to the Championship.

Adebayo’s goal tally wasn’t the highest among the top flight’s strikers but he still had a far better return than both Calvert-Lewin and Beto.

It also remains to be seen whether or not deadline-day signing Armando Broja can have the impact on Dyche’s squad that he is expected to.

Upon his return from injury, should the Chelsea ace have a decent campaign in terms of goals and assists the Toffees could well activate their option to buy the Albania international [the Sunday Mirror, 1 September, page 70].

January is still a fair while away yet, but, one thing is certain, if Calvert-Lewin won’t extend his stay at Goodison Park, he has to be sold so that Everton doesn’t lose their star man on a free transfer by the end of the season.
