Everton conduct Sean Dyche due diligence as ‘big-name manager’ eyed

Everton are conducting due diligence should the club choose to part ways with Sean Dyche, according to Graeme Bailey.

The journalist reported via Everton News [9 September] that former Everton boss David Moyes and Graham Potter are the two appreciated names at Goodison Park.

Bailey cited the latter, who most recently managed Chelsea, as one that Everton deem a “big-name” manager.

Everton should target Graham Potter should Sean Dyche leave

Dyche is under immense pressure at Goodison Park [BBC Radio 5 Live] after three consecutive defeats in the Premier League and faces a tough test against Aston Villa on Saturday [14 September] to get his side’s season back on track.

The 53-year-old has been here before and last season he suffered a similar run of form but managed to turn his fortune around and secure a comfortable fifteenth-placed finish, 14 points clear of the drop zone.

However, the last season at Goodison Park has brought added pressure of success this season and the Everton supporters will not tolerate a year of fighting relegation as they bid farewell to their home ahead of a move to Bramley-Moore Dock.

A return to Merseyside for David Moyes, 11 years since he left Goodison Park for Manchester United has been heavily reported [talkSPORT]. However, should the Blues choose to sack Dyche this season a move for Potter is the more exciting possibility.

While he suffered a torrid spell with Chelsea before moving to West London, his Brighton & Hove Albion side played some of the most entertaining football in the Premier League – as did another former side in Swansea City.

Too long have Everton supporters been forced to watch defensive-minded football under several managers. It has almost cost them their place in the English top flight and, amid the dawn of a new era at the club, they must adapt to the times.
