Everton fans told to brace for debt news in latest bizarre development
Everton are preparing to announce more “bizarre” short-term extended debt funding arrangements in the coming days, according to The Esk.
The fan-led Toffees finance blog posted an update on X [9 September] that told fans to prepare for an “interesting” week ahead with further short-term debt funding expected at Goodison Park.
Pointing out that this won’t change much in terms of the club’s ownership and takeover talks, The Esk did state that these arrangements will help the Blues to meet immediate requirements in terms of cashflow.
The Esk wrote: “An ‘interesting week ahead of Evertonians off the field, as more bizarre short term extended debt funding arrangements are expected to be announced.
“Nothing that solves the ownership issue, but just meets immediate cashflow requirements.”
Everton debt issues set to dominate ownership talks
The Toffees racking up close to an eye-watering £650million in debt over the course of recent years [The Esk, 13 July] has seen several would-be suitors turn their noses up at the prospect of buying the beleaguered club.
Now strapped for cash and having to publicly announce the ways in which they’ve arranged to stave off further debts issues, it’s clearer than ever that vast change is needed at Goodison Park, and fast.
John Textor shapes as Evertonians’ beacon of hope as takeover talks with Farhad Moshiri continue, but the sheer debts and other legal worries have seen other prospective buyers withdraw their own efforts.
Dan Friedkin did so most recently due to the debts owed to previous front-runners 777 Partners, who themselves were forced to withdraw from negotiations after their share purchase agreement expired.
Both parties now have debts of their own tied up within the club’s finances, making any and every takeover attempt that much more difficult, and the malaise shows no signs of ending any time soon.
In other Everton news, Textor has identified a left-field manager to take up the mantle if he sacks Sean Dyche once taking over.
