Everton have no immediate plans to sign a replacement for Jordan Pickford, according to TEAMtalk.

The outlet reported on 17 September that Pickford is still seen as the clear first choice between the sticks, despite recent reports suggesting that Sean Dyche was looking at alternative goalkeepers.

Newcastle star Nick Pope is said to be wanted by the Blues manager [Alan Nixon, 15 September], and though Dyche remains a fan, he has no plans to pursue him in January.

After just four games, the Toffees have already conceded almost a quarter of the goals they shipped in the entirety of last season, setting alarm bells ringing for Pickford and his defence.

Dyche's dogged Blues side certainly rode their luck at times in 2023/24 as two point deductions threatened to bring relegation to Goodison Park, but a rock-solid defensive unit was their cornerstone.

That's exactly what makes their freefall of both form and defensive prowess all the more shocking, with Pickford himself caught out, dispossessed and embarrassed in a 4-0 drubbing by Tottenham.

However, in front of him has been a makeshift back four comprised of over-the-hill and out-of-form players, with the likes of Jarrad Branthwaite still out with an injury.

As the last line of defence, Pickford has shouldered much of the blame for the Blues' woes so far this season, but once big names return, he and the Goodison faithful will hope for an uptick in form.
