David Ornstein issues fresh Jarrad Branthwaite claim at Everton

Jarrad Branthwaite appears close to returning to action for Everton which is a huge boost for them, claims David Ornstein.

Speaking on the Sky Sports Back Pages podcast, as quoted by Give Me Sport (20 September), the Athletic journalist shared that there are some suggestions about his imminent return.

The Toffees rejected big offers for him in the summer and have struggled in his absence this season.

Ornstein said: “There’s some suggestion that Jarrad Branthwaite could be back from injury pretty soon, and that will be a huge boost, given you know, they’ve turned down massive offers for him over the summer, and he’s one of the most promising defenders in the country, and boy, do they need him right now.

“But in the bigger picture, they’ll be desperate to avoid relegation, obviously, especially when they go into their amazing-looking new stadium next summer.”

Everton must be cautious with Jarrad Branthwaite’s return from injury

Branthwaite’s imminent return from injury is indeed a significant boost, given his potential as one of England’s promising defenders and the team’s defensive vulnerabilities in his absence.

His presence not only strengthens the Toffees’ backline but also provides a psychological lift to the team, potentially stabilising their defensive performances.

However, the club must handle his reintegration with caution.

Rushing the 22-year-old back into the first team could risk further injury, especially considering the physical demands of Premier League football.

Everton need to ensure he is match fit and gradually ease him back into competitive action, possibly through substitute appearances or cup games initially.

Directly expecting him to play the full 90 minutes could potentially be dangerous and it’s not worth risking losing him for another few weeks.

Sean Dyche surely will be eager but he’s got to air on the side of caution as well.

In other Everton, a source close to Dan Friedkin has issued an update on the Toffees takeover after a recent twist.
