Aaron Lennon shares what Everton simply must do to avoid relegation scrap
Aaron Lennon insists former side Everton simply have to be more clinical if they are to turn their fortunes around.
The Toffees have had a poor start to their Premier League campaign and find themselves in 19th place with just one point to their name.
There have been two occasions where Everton have managed to lose a two-goal lead this term against both Villa and Bournemouth.
Speaking live on talkSPORT (23 September, 9:22am), Lennon was questioned by Gabby Agbonlahor about whether Everton needed to be more clinical in front of goal against Leicester and after their recent results.
“One hundred per cent. It’s the same against Villa, to be honest,” Lennon said.
“Dominic [Calvert-Lewin] has a massive chance and maybe if he makes it 3-1, I think they go on to win that game.
“When you’re down there you have to take your chances, you’ve got to be ruthless and again, not just picking on Dom but like you said, they’re not going to get many chances but when they do they’ve got to take them.
“They’ll be disappointed because I’ve worked with Sean and I’ve worked with a lot of them Everton boys, they normally know how to see out games.”
Everton need Dominic Calvert-Lewin to be more clinical
Calvert-Lewin has led Everton’s attacking line for as long as many can remember.
In recent seasons, the striker has had some troubles with injuries but, when he’s firing, he could easily be classed as one of the best in the league.
Fortunately for the England international, he’s managed to stay fit so far and, despite interest from Newcastle during the window and even as recently as 21 September [GiveMeSport], he looks set to stay at Goodison Park until the end of the season.
Armando Broja was brought in on deadline day to help bolster Sean Dyche’s number-nine ranks and perhaps get the club more goals.

However, as the striker is sidelined until at least November with an injury, Calvert-Lewin has a chance to shine and cement his place in the starting XI.
The 27-year-old is pivotal to Everton’s attacks but, if he doesn’t start firing properly soon, he could be replaced by the Albania international as soon as he’s fit to feature.
In other Everton news, a potential new manager has been mooted to join the club if Dan Friedkin’s deal to takeover comes to completion.
