Everton defender Nathan Patterson injury update emerges v Crystal Palace

Everton defender Nathan Patterson is not expected to start against Crystal Palace as he’s just recovering from a muscular injury, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert claims that the Scotland international will also require a late fitness for the game on 28 September at Goodison Park.

In his pre-match press conference, Dyche confirmed that Patterson is recovering but his recovery period is longer given the lengthy absence.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Brar, a specialist in Physical Therapy and Sports Scientist, said about Patterson:

Considering he has been out months and it’s a muscular injury, 90 minutes off the bat would be a stretch.

I imagine the team will be methodical with his return to play and manage his minutes to see how he responds.

He may still need to pass a fitness test to be available for the game, but he’s surely not starting this one.

Everton must be extremely careful with Nathan Patterson

It makes sense for the Toffees to be conservative with the minutes they give Patterson as he’s recovering from an injury.

His body may still not have recovered completely and even if it has, not playing regular football for so many months is certainly not going to help with his return.

It’s a good thing that Ashley Young is capable of doing a decent job at right-back so there’s no need to rush Patterson back.
