Everton must avoid Sean Dyche replacement mistake as surprise candidate emerges

Everton must steer clear of hiring Besiktas manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst as the replacement for Sean Dyche.

Dirilis Postasti reported via their website on Wednesday (9 October) that the Toffees are likely to sack Dyche after their underwhelming start to the season.

According to the Turkish outlet, Everton have also earmarked Van Bronckhorst as their preferred candidate to replace the 53-year-old.

The Besiktas manager has reportedly rejected an offer from Goodison Park, but could green light the move if things get worse in Turkey.

Everton must not replace Sean Dyche with Giovanni van Bronckhorst

On paper, Van Bronckhorst appears to be a decent manager, having tasted some level of success with Feyenoord, Rangers and Besiktas.

However, the Dutchman is far from an ideal fit for Everton, who might be better off with Dyche despite The Friedkin Group’s imminent takeover.

While he had a successful four-year spell at Feyenoord, winning five trophies, he lasted only a year at each of his previous two clubs – Rangers and Guangzhou.

With Besiktas winning only two of their last six games, he could have a similar fate in Turkey too.

Hiring a manager with no Premier League experience is also a huge risk for Everton considering they are fighting relegation this season.

The Merseyside-based club must also consider Steven Gerrard’s case while assessing Van Bronckhorst.

Gerrard’s Rangers won the Scottish Premiership unbeaten in the 2020-21 season before joining Aston Villa, but failed to maintain similar levels in England.

While Van Bronckhorst’s Ibrox spell was by no means a disaster as he managed 2.01 points per match, the Premier League is a different ball game altogether.
