Bryan King has warned Dele Alli that the 28-year-old could end up playing non-league football if he fails to secure a deal with Everton.

The ex-Goodison scout thinks now is the time for the former Tottenham midfielder to prove his fitness.

Alan Myers recently provided an update on Alli via his personal X account (3 November), writing, "I believe he’s all good and is closer to having some game time (U21’s) etc only what I’ve heard".

And King - speaking exclusively to Goodison News - has wished the Englishman the best of luck.

“He has got to prove himself,” King said.

“Match fitness, his own personal fitness and the ability to be involved in games. These are things he needs to prove.

“This is a telling time for him to see whether all the work he has done will pay off. Whether you’re playing for the Under-21s or first team, your attitude needs to be the same, and your performance must be the same.

“If he is picked to play for the Under-21s, with the experience that he’s got, he should be a standout player. He has work to do, that is for sure.

“However, if he has the chance to play, this should be his cup final. He should be proving that he is worth signing. Otherwise, he will be playing non-league football.

“It will be tough for him, but if he comes through it then good luck to him. He’s not an old player, he still has that on his side.”

Dele Alli to secure brand-new Everton contract at Goodison Park?

Alli has continued his rehabilitation at Finch Farm even after his contract with Everton came to an end.

He has had his fair share of setbacks, even in recent weeks. Therefore, it feels as though it is now or never for the midfielder.

Whether he can return to his previous best and work his way back into Sean Dyche's plans remains to be seen.

However, before he can even think about that, he needs to try and secure a deal with the Toffees first. There is no doubt that when at his best, Alli could be a devastating player for Everton.

Therefore, everybody connected with the club will be hoping for the best possible outcome.
