Sam Allardyce and David Seaman have agreed that Jordan Pickford's mentality hugely benefits both he and Everton.

The former Toffees boss and ex-England goalkeeper praised the mental durability Pickford has which allows him to easily recover from errors.

The 30-year-old is currently away with the Three Lions for games against Greece and the Republic of Ireland, having been exemplary in the away draw at West Ham United [9 November].

"Other than his technical ability, there is his mental ability to be able to throw away a mistake and not let it affect him again," Allardyce said on the Seaman Says podcast [12 November, 48:22].

"He gets better when he makes a mistake, rather than going under."

Seaman added: "When he makes that mistake, he doesn't think 'I've got to make a save or get that cross'. He waits for it."

Allardyce responded: "He comes into the dressing room and before you come in, he says 'I'm sorry, it was my fault' when he's made a mistake. There's a lot to be said for that."

Jordan Pickford mentality has always been massive for Everton

Pickford has had to deal with huge pressure throughout his career, yet has come through nearly eight years at Everton shining from the experience.

His robust and buoyant nature has always been an assuring factor for his team, and many have wondered in recent years whether the Toffees would still be a Premier League club without him.

The former Sunderland man has never appeared to agitate for a move or look remotely unsettled, and appears to relish the parallel challenges of surviving with a club who match his values, and performing for the nation as England's number one.

Allardyce, 70, worked with Pickford early in his Everton career when he was still a young goalkeeper, with the stopper having been a starlet at the Stadium of Light when the manager had kept them in the Premier League in 2015-16, giving him his top-flight debut.

And if Pickford - who is fast approaching 300 games in a Toffees shirt - continues on his current trajectory, he will go down in folklore on Merseyside.
