Ruud van Nistelrooy, who has been linked with Everton after leaving Manchester United, may have his sights set elsewhere.

According to talkSPORT, the Dutchman who took interim charge at Old Trafford following the sacking of Erik ten Hag, has applied for the vacant job at Coventry City.

The former Premier League striker wants to continue his managerial career after his success at PSV Eindhoven.

talkSPORT wrote on X: "Ruud van Nistelrooy has applied for the vacant Coventry City manager job, talkSPORT understands. Just four days after leaving Man United, van Nistelrooy is looking to forge his managerial career in English football."

TEAMtalk claimed on 14 November that the Dutchman was among the names being considered at Goodison Park amid uncertainty surrounding Sean Dyche's job.

The Friedkin Group have to make a quick decision on Sean Dyche's future at Everton

The Friedkin Group, as Everton's incoming owners, must act decisively if they wish to secure van Nistelrooy's services.

His application for the Coventry City job signals his intent to return to management, and he might not remain available for long.

If the new owners see van Nistelrooy as a potential replacement for Dyche, they should initiate contact immediately.

This urgency stems from the need to either confirm Dyche's position or swiftly move to install a new manager.

Delays could lead to the Dutchman accepting another role, forcing the Toffees to pivot to less preferred candidates, thus potentially disrupting their strategic plans for the club's future.
