Everton relegation concern shared after 'worrying' development this season

Mike Hughes believes it’s “worrying” that Everton have only got six points from six home games in the Premier League this season.

The Toffees currently sit 15th in the table and are just two points adrift of the Premier League drop zone.

Writing for the BBC Sport website (27 November), BBC Radio Merseyside reporter Hughes is concerned because the Toffees' home form has been important in previous relegation battles.

“The win against Palace is Everton’s only Premier League victory at Goodison so far this season,” he wrote.

“Six points from six home matches so far is worrying, especially as home games have been the platform for survival in the past few seasons.

"The schedule of fixtures also gets much harder - December could hardly be more difficult.

“As he has done before, Dyche will have to try to forge a way of winning matches again from this group of players.”

The summer transfer window was a fairly intriguing one for the Toffees with a handful of players being brought to Merseyside.

Iliman Ndiaye has been the standout performer since his arrival but it feels like an awful lot more could come from the other members of the squad, aside from Dwight McNeil, of course.

Jake O’Brien was another player Dyche chose to bring in during the summer but he’s hardly been given a chance in the first-team and has instead been plying his trade for the Under-21s.

Their next game is against Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United and with Sunday’s game being the Portuguese manager’s first league outing at Old Trafford, it feels like it could be difficult for the Merseyside outfit to salvage anything from the game.

Only time will tell what the future holds for Everton and Dyche but unless they can find a way to get back to winning ways, it’s hard to see how they won’t get dragged into another relegation battle.
