Everton are interested in a "bargain deal" for Olympique Lyon midfielder Maxence Caqueret, according to GiveMeSport.

The news outlet reports [5 December] that with the Ligue 1 outfit's financial troubles, the Toffees are confident of capitalising on the situation in pursuit of the 24-year-old's signature.

Lyon's financial mismanagement has seen them get provisionally relegated from the French top flight, and they could go ahead with a fire-sale in the upcoming transfer window to raise funds, which the Blues are looking to take advantage of.

The Merseyside outfit will face competition to sign Caqueret, with Premier League rivals Crystal Palace also eyeing him.

Maxence Caqueret a quality signing for Everton

Caqueret would be a quality addition to Sean Dyche's squad, and the Toffees could have the upper hand in negotiations over other parties, considering they signed Jake O'Brien and Orel Mangala from the French outfit in the summer.

The 24-year-old's arrival could commence the start of a new era at the Blues, with Dan Friedkin's takeover on the cards.

Dyche has managed to quell some of the noise around his future at Goodison Park after the 4-0 victory over Wolves.

Gary O'Neil's team travelled to Merseyside on 4 December and were humbled by a buoyed Toffees team, with Ashley Young and Mangala getting on the scoresheet and Craig Dawson scoring two own goals.

The Blues are 15th in the league table and have a five-point buffer with the relegation zone, although things could change by the end of the month.

Everton can't step their foot off the gas with some challenging fixtures up ahead.

Liverpool will make their way to Goodison on Saturday (7 December), followed by games against Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City.

Dyche could likely find himself out of a job if the Toffees lose their next three matches.
