Premier League fixtures to be called off after Everton v Liverpool postponement
Bryan King has speculated that further games could be postponed after the Premier League clash between Everton and Liverpool was called off on Saturday.
The ex-Goodison scout claims safety would have been the number one priority as the final Merseyside Derby scheduled to take place at Goodison Park was called off around four hours before it was set to start on 7 December due to the impact of Storm Darragh.
It is expected that the Toffees will suffer “extremely high” financial losses as a result of the postponement.
However, King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – doesn’t think a decision could have been made any sooner.
“Everton against Liverpool has been postponed, due to the weather of course,” King said.
“This will, of course, be frustrating, this is a massive game, not only for both clubs but for the city. It is always a game which brings the city together. Therefore, for a game of that size to be postponed, obviously the safety factor has to come into it.
“I would immediately say that if the conditions up there are like what we’re seeing across the West Coast of England and Wales, then it is the sensible decision. I’m not sure it will be the last game to be postponed today, by the look of things.
“The Premier League couldn’t have made this decision any earlier, because the weather wouldn’t have been as bad last night as it was this morning. It doesn’t look as though it is going to ease till mid-afternoon either. Safety for supporters and players has to be the number one priority. The wind is quite ferocious, it is raining, and you have to think about people travelling.
“A lot of things go into postponing games of that size, and safety is the main one.”
Merseyside Derby between Everton and Liverpool postponed
Sean Dyche’s side would have been in a confident mood after thrashing Wolves 4-0 in the Premier League at Goodison Park on Wednesday [4 December], and the Toffees were expected to play with more freedom against the Reds as a result.
Therefore, this postponement will frustrate Everton. However, what is even more frustrating is that both clubs must now find time in an already busy fixture schedule to rearrange this fixture.

That frustration could yet be eased if other teams also see their matches postponed, with Manchester United set to host Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford on Saturday [7 December], which isn’t exactly a million miles away from Liverpool.
However, it remains to be seen if that game is also postponed.
